Dharma Poetics
With Elizabeth Guthrie
January 11, 2026
“The business of art… is to live in the actual present, and to
completely express that complete actual present.” ~ Gertrude Stein
This workshop explores methods and themes of the open question and the resonate heart. We will be mindfully generating and framing Poetic Language in relationship with the landscape around us. We will use sensory awareness and writing exercises aimed at activating and exercising that place between the conscious mind and the non-conscious mind. These exercises include making use of sensory input and memory, automatic writing (as introduced by Andre Breton and the Surrealists) as well as William Burroughs’s non-conscious and cut-up techniques.
There will be mid-week office hours (online) for those who would like support in revision and editing. We will culminate with a poetry reading open to the public on Friday evening 1/16.
