Jenny Bates

Jenny Bates, born and raised in the UK, enjoyed a childhood of unsupervised outdoor play with three younger siblings. She obtained a Bachelor of Music from Edinburgh University, a diploma in music therapy from the Guildhall School, and a postgraduate degree in music education from Homerton College, Cambridge. Piano is her instrument.
In 1980 she moved with husband and two children to New York where she chanced upon Shambhala (The Sacred Path of the Warrior) — read with curiosity and bewilderment. Subsequently, she joined a small Zen group on Long Island. In 2000, upon moving to the Hudson Valley, she found a band of Shambhala practitioners and has studied Buddhism through Shambhala ever since. Jenny works in private practice as a psychotherapist with attention to the contemporary issue of climate grief. As nature and music are vital to her well-being, she enjoys gardening and plays piano at various venues in the Hudson Valley.
