Wander, Wonder, Connect: The Practice of Social Meditation and Nonviolent Communication
With Barbara Bash and Travis DeTour
May 2, 2026
In this one-day workshop we explore slowing down, reconnecting with ourselves, and getting curious about how we meet one another with greater presence and care. We invite you to join us in an exploration of presence, play, and honest connection. The morning will be a contemplative journey through guided meditation, movement, and some connection with the natural world. We’ll explore what it means to come into the body, awaken the senses, and allow curiosity and play to guide us. Through a practice called social meditation, we’ll sit in circle and share from our direct experience as a way to bring mindful awareness into real-time connection with others. In the afternoon, we’ll shift into the foundations of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). Together, we’ll explore how to recognize and transform habitual, judgmental patterns (“jackal” voices) into language rooted in awareness, feelings, and needs. Through guided practices, dyads, and group exercises, you’ll have the opportunity to practice speaking and listening with greater clarity, honesty, and empathy. This day is an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and discover new ways of being within yourself and in intimate connection with others.
