This intensive is designed for practitioners of the movement and theater arts with interest in integrating meditation and action as these apply to physical pedagogies, individual practice, and the generation of performance forms.

We will focus on differentiating and integrating mindfulness-awareness practice, somatic practices drawn from Body-Mind Centering®, and post-postmodern forms of improvisation, composition, being and becoming. We will cultivate the ground experiences of synchronizing mind and body and direct experience of environment as sources of personal well-being and performance art.

Forms and Intentions we will introduce and explore throughout the intensive:

LUJONG  Tibetan Buddhist movement practice

DEVELOPMENTAL MOVEMENT The fundamental patterns of locomotion, rising, and falling

SOMATIC PRACTICE  Deepening direct experience of body and developing pathways to expression

GUIDED MEDITATION  Focusing on diverse somatic aspects and fully inhabiting the 4 postures of mindfulness, based on Erika Berland’s book, Sitting: The Physical Art of Meditation

AIMLESS WANDERING  Working with different lenses of perception: sensing, feeling, action and cultivating flexibility of response

VIEWPOINTS AS A MINDFULNESS-AWARENESS PRACTICE IN OPEN SPACE:  Cultivating a full arc of perception from vibratory being to recognition of space, time, form & the other

DE-CENTERING THE PERFORMER:  Exchanging oneself for other; becoming space, time, line, kinesthetic sensation, image, story & the no-self of self
