Pema Chodron, “lotus dharma lamp,” was the first American to become a fully ordained nun in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. She was a disciple of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, who appointed her director of Gampo Abbey in Nova Scotia — the first Tibetan Buddhist monastery in North America for Westerners. She was principal teacher at the Abbey until retiring in 2020. Beloved by meditation practitioners world-wide, Pema is the author of dozens of dharma books based on her public teachings. Her life today is largely spent in solitary retreat.
