KUNDUN (“Ocean of Wisdom”), a motion picture masterpiece of staggering beauty, tells the true story of the struggles of the Dalai Lama (“Buddha of Compassion”) to rule Tibet, his native country, in the face of China’s invasion and ultimate takeover. Beginning in 1937 when a 2-year-old boy is recognized as the incarnated Dalai Lama, KUNDUN dramatizes the Dalai Lama’s unique childhood, his training in political and spiritual practices, as well as his endeavors to negotiate with Mao Tse Tung for the welfare of the Tibetan people, culminating in a formidable journey into exile at the age of 24.
The film boasts a music score by Buddhist practitioner Philip Glass.
Director Bio: Martin Scorsese, world-renowned film director and film historian, is a person of immense artistic integrity with a profound interest in portraying the spiritual/ethical dimensions of human experience.
